Technology for the environment

Nature, energy and technology, environment and climate change: These are key issues and main concerns of Gut Karlshöhe. We not only insist on using the most current environmental technologies throughout the estate, but also use them in a manner that makes them visual to all interested visitors.

Photovoltaics

Back in 2008, we installed a 160 sqm photovoltaic system on the roof of the barn, whose capacity you can check out here.

Drainage

With the help of the "Hamburg Water Cycle", developed by our cooperation partners Hamburg Wasser, Gut Karlshöhe today also utilizes a new drainage system. This includes the use of accumulated rain water, the cleaning of waste water through a new wetland, and the possibility of exploitation of human waste water as an energy-containing biomass.

Glass energy house

Right next to the barn is the Glass energy house. Here we demonstrate several energy-saving heating technologies - from a fuel cell, a cogeneration unit to a pellet-fired boiler with solar heating system - all fully operational and in action.

Heat accumulator

Adjacent is the impressive 4,000 cubic meters of comprehensive water heat storage, which is now connected to the district heating network as a multifunctional storage facility. In this pilot project of E-ON Hanse Wärme GmbH, heat from solar thermal plants and cogeneration plants and the Stapelfeld waste incinerator facility is stored and used as needed.
